"Service is the best form of worship, the highest spiritual discipline, the essence of devotion. The bliss you receive through service cannot be gotten through any other activity. Service is more fruitful than repetition of the Name, meditation, or sacrifice. There is no morality higher than truth, no prayer more fruitful than service. When you offer a meal to a hungry child, or a blanket to a shivering brother on the pavement, you are placing a gift of God into the hand of another gift of God." -
Sri Sathya Sai Baba
Sathya Sai Seva Samithi organizes selfless service activities in line with Sathya Sai Baba's saying: "Hands that serve are holier than lips that pray". Members perform these activities without expecting any monetary or non-monetary rewards in return.
Some of the regular activities we perform include providing cooked and canned food to shelters, cooking and serving in soup kitchens, helping the old people, Christmas toy drive, food serving, adhoc seva opportunities etc.
We provide pasta and juice pouches every week to the Somerville Homeless Interim Program (SHIP). Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are also distributed. The food is cooked at members' home and they bring it to the center on Sundays. It is delivered on Monday morning.
If you would like to bring pasta, juice pouches or sandwiches, the
recipe and details are available here. We also usually cook Mexican Rice with beans for our Narayana Sevas.
We also have a
collection of other recipes for Narayana Seva and other events.
We need volunteers to donate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Sign-up sheet is available at the center information desk during regular weekly program. Please sign-up during your next visit.
We also have a Clothing Donation Program for which we collect
clothes during our regular Sunday program.
